Why Miguel Could Be the Good Guy Here
The lovers of “This Is Us” can tell you that Miguel actually starting to grow up is a statement thy never thought they would use. This is however the case as in (Season 2, Episode 11) where we find an addiction expert guiding Kelvin on how to start a group dialogue with the Pearson’s sited in circle looking all uncomfortable. Normally, they would be holding a family get-together at Randal’s sprawling mansion or at Kate and Toby’s sweet apartment.
This therapy is a result of the spiraling alcohol addicted to both pain killers and fame Kevin deciding to embark on a fast-speed highway drive with Tess, Beth and Randal’s young daughter, at the back seat. A possible scenario was with Kelvin entering into what seemed as a wreck but the writers knew that our hearts would not handle that. The couple had just had to go through uniting their foster daughter Deja to her biological mother and loosing Tess would have been too much.
This is probably why a cop pulled him up and when we see him again, he had been at the rehab for three months trying to fix the damage he had done to himself and the people that loved him.
This is what leads to this family affair that is for family meaning that Beth, Toby and Miguel are not invited. They therefore had to look for a place to spend the afternoon, a bar, that Toby thinks is ironic. Kevin gets all the deep motions that he had and we can clearly see that he feels ousted by the family. This led to him looking for the admiration and the attention on the media that he never got from his family that was on everyone’s case except his leaving him feeling like a third wheel.
Basically, the basic law of attraction is what is at play here as Kevin is looking for what he never got to fill in the void but it never does. Miguel, the new one to the group is married to his best friend’s wife although he is all sweet to the Pearson’s family. Not just any best friend, Jack Pearson’s who is too perfect for anyone to stand up to or as they like to refer to it, “no-fly zone”. Miguel knows his place which he is okay with and knows that to change it, it would require the reversal of the very fabric that weaves together the Pearson just like Kelvin. The only difference is that unless Kevin makes amends and heals , he will keep unraveling it but Miguel on the other hand may be what the family needs to get back together.
